The George Washington

The George Washington is placed in the Village of Warton, long associated with the Washington family who lived here. Washington's ancestor of seven generations, Lawrence Washington, is rumoured to have helped build the village church of St Oswald.

The George Washington is a village inn popular with the locals who give you a warm welcome and have a good selection of cask ales. We offer a varied selection of home cooked food and have B and B accommodation available at reasonable rates. Set at the foot of Warton Crag and handy for Leighton Hall and Leighton Moss Bird Sanctuary. The pub itself has historical connections with George Washington, historical President of the USA.

The pub boasts four en-suite rooms which are furnished to a high standard and room rates are available from £60 per double and special rates for longer stays. The coastal villages of Silverdale and Arnside are a short drive away and we are only five minutes away from the M6

Carnforth will forever be famous for being the film location for the David Lean's classic film 'Brief Encounter'. To find out more about the film, visit Carnforth Station Heritage Centre and discover the fascinating history of Carnforth - its contribution to the World Wars, its important railway history and its families and community.

Carnforth makes an ideal base for a tour of the immediate area and a gateway to places further afield like Lancaster and the Lake District. Warton Crag, ideal for hiking, climbing and abseiling, is nearby, or explore the picturesque villages within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5
We stayed there for one night, the owners were having a five anniversary celebration and we were invited to the celebration and buffet that was put on for locals. This was an unexpected pleasure and made for a very enjoyable evening. Excellent value for money and located in a very pleasant village.
